Knights of Columbus Council #3291 in Canonsburg will host its annual Youth Trout Fishing Derby Saturday, May 17. This fun-filled family outing will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Lodge at Ruff Creek. Activities will include fishing in a stocked trout pond, games and refreshments. Bring fishing gear. Limited poles will be available. The day will come to a close with Mass at 6 p.m. celebrated by the Rev. John J. Batykefer, pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Canonsburg. Company hired by USC to raise money for rec center
By a 5-2 vote, commissioners in Upper St. Clair approved a contract with an Ohio-based firm to assist township volunteers in raising $2 million towards costs for the community recreation and outdoor aquatic center on Mayview Road.

Galleria assessment settlement approved
Mt. Lebanon Commissioners approved an agreement with owners of the Galleria Mall which will boost the property assessment by about 76 percent for 2006 and will also increase slightly though the 2008 tax year.

The Laughlins of Mt. Lebanon named March of Dimes Pittsburgh Ambassadors
Joy and Tadd Laughlin understand firsthand what it can mean if a baby is not born healthy. When their daughter, Emma, was born at 29 weeks, 11 weeks early, no one knew if she would survive. She weighed just 2 pounds, 3 ounces and spent 7 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). At birth, Emma received surfactant therapy which is commonly used on many babies born prematurely to keep their lungs from collapsing. The March of Dimes played a leading role in the development of surfactant therapy.
