South Fayette School District Superintendent Dr. Linda Hippert in a letter to residents said, "Due to the increasing enrollment as well as the space constraints in our current elementary, K-4 building (we presently have 5 modular classrooms), the school directors engaged the services of Eckles Architects to perform a feasibility study and Dr. Shelby Stewman, Demographer from Carnegie Mellon University to study and report projected student population growth."
These reports have been presented at the public meetings and are also available on the District website (www.southfayette.org).
She said, "The district is now studying options for "adding on" to the current elementary building vs. building a new grade 3-4-5 facility on campus. Eckles Architects are gathering data and we will be reviewing in detail, the ongoing estimated operational costs and logistics associated with both options. Also, the costs associated with purchase and installation of additional modular classrooms, connected to the building, will be reported. The school directors will need to make decisions as to how enrollment growth in the district is accommodated. The board has requested that this information be completed by June 24.
Hippert said the school directors and administration are encouraging members of the staff and community to become knowledgeable of the facts as well as the options associated with student enrollment growth and future construction.
The district will hold a series of meetings for those interested and able to attend as follows from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, June 11 and June 18.
The location will be determined based upon the number of persons who are interested in participating.
