Samuel Viggiano, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Viggiano of Mt. Lebanon, recently participated as a baritone in the 75th annual Region 1 State Chorus Festival, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. The festival took place at Hickory High School in Hermitage, Pa. with 150 students from 58 school districts performing.
New York parade
The Mt. Lebanon High School Blue Devil Marching Band traveled to New York City to participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The Musicians, Rockettes and Silks showed off their new uniforms as they marched the 4 mile parade route down Fifth Avenue. The band is under the direction of Miss. Louise Marino.
Teach Award
St. Louise de Marillac School in Upper St. Clair has received a $2,000 Teach Award from Best Buy Co., Inc. for integrating interactivetechnology into its curriculum.
The award recognizes the creative efforts of Zee Ann Poerio, third grade teacher and Latin Club advisor, for integrating technology into the study of ancient coins and Classics by developing an Ancient Coin Museum.
Business Leaders
Forty-seven Bishop Canevin students participated in the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference recently.
Rachel Wagner placed eighth in Public Speaking II. Region 10 President, Stephen Dukes, finished third in Mr. Future Business Leader. Hannah Urick was second in the open event, Hospitality Management. Kelly Mayer was fourth in Business Procedures and Tamiko Yamatani was fifth in Accounting II.
Qualifying for the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta from June 24th though June 30th are the second place Management Information Systems team of Peter Gegick, Fran Lison and Justin Petrovich and Stacy McClellan who finished second in the new Client Service event.
In addition, Bishop Canevin finished with two chapter awards. The school finished sixth in largest chapter membership with 171 members and first in the Market Share Award which measures the percentage of members to total school population.
The students were accompanied by faculty members Tim Wanamaker, Gigi DePascale and Jim O'Connell.
