Wesley Spectrum Services announce the addition of the Therapeutic Creative Arts Program to the agency's autism services in the South Hills. This new program is created to enhance communication by allowing children with autism to express themselves through music to build self-esteem, refine auditory, coping and fine motor skills, appropriate behavior, and alleviate frustration and anxiety. In addition to music therapy, the Therapeutic Creative Arts Program will include services such as music and movement groups, art groups, instrument instruction and programs focusing on the creative and expressive arts. The program is held through the Wesley Spectrum Family and Child Development Center. It is directed by Katie Harrill, MT-BC, a board-certified music therapist. Families interested in learning more about how music therapy can benefit their child are invited to attend a free open house session to be scheduled on a monthly basis at the Family and Child Development Center on Mayview Road in Canonsburg. The Wesley Spectrum Family and Child Development Center specializes in the treatment of children with autism and provides wraparound services and social skills groups.
The Family and Child Development Center is a program of Wesley Spectrum Services. Through its various specialized education, mental health and family programs, Wesley Spectrum Services provides services to 3,000 children and adolescents and 7,000 family members a year in 15 facilities in seven counties. More information about Wesley Spectrum is available at www.wesleyspectrum.org.
