Hull named MVP
Mike Hull earned MVP honors as the Canon-McMillan senior guided Team USA to victory, 17-0, over the World at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The Canonsburg resident shared the lead on defense with Travis Williams from Virginia. Each had eight tackles, but Hull claimed the game's only interception. He picked off a pass late in the third quarter to preserve the victory. At the time, the World trailed 14-0 and faced a critical third and seven at the USA 12-yard line.
The contest showcased the best under 19 American football players from around the world for the first time, the team representing eight countries and four continents held their own against USA Football's junior national team of 45 players who have committed to some of the nation's top college football programs.
Hull, who was designated a captain for Team USA, will play linebacker for Penn State University this autumn.
O'Grady signs
A four-year varsity letterwinner, O'Grady played No. 3 singles for the Panthers, competing in the section singles tournaments her junior and senior years. During the Panthers' state tournament run, O'Grady played No. 2 doubles.
USC finished as both the WPIAL and PIAA runner-up to rival Peters Township this past fall.
She was ranked No. 1 in Allegheny Mountain Tennis in the 14's, 16's and 18's during 2006-2008. She rated No. 2 in the 18's for 2009. Her highest Middle States ranking was 57.
In addition to tennis, O'Grady participated in Athletes Taking Action while at USC.
The daughter of John and Donna O'Grady will major in nursing.
