Library invites public to build fairy gardens
The Peters Township Public Library is welcoming spring with a beautiful new window display and a program to bring the magic of fairies to your garden.
Nancy Vejlstrup, Exhibit Designer for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, will present "Build Your Own Fairy Garden" from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at the library.
"Whether it's fairies, gnomes or elves that give your garden that special sparkle, you'll want to encourage them to stay around," said Vejlstrup. "How better to do that than build them a unique, miniature garden of their own."
Vejlstrup will discuss how to make a "fairy house" as simple or elaborate as you would like, offering a slideshow to spark your imagination and a live demonstration of the planting and accessorizing of two container gardens. Participants will receive a packet of printed materials with ideas and sources for special garden features. Fairy gardens created during the class will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the end of the program. All proceeds will benefit the library. Register at the library circulation desk for this program.
For creative ideas to bring this special magic to your garden this spring, visitors to the library can enjoy the elaborate fairy-garden themed display in the front windows created by Vejlstrup.
