PT, Lebo pairs advance


A double dose of familiarity, the Peters Township and Mt. Lebanon tennis teams bring to the WPIAL Class AAA doubles tournament slated to start at Keystone Oaks this Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2.

During their respective section tournament, the Indians and the Blue Devils advanced both of their pairs' players to the finals as well as the upcoming district event.

In the Section 5 championship match, Doug Subosits and Andrew Nixon combined to beat teammates Chris Nixon and Jesse Scheirer, 6-3, 6-0.

To the date, the foursome have paced Peters Township to an undefeated record in team play in the division.






Most recently, the Indians edged rival Upper St. Clair, 3-2, in team competition. Subosits and the Nixon brothers scored the wins in singles' action as PT improved to 11-1 overall.

Meanwhile, the Section 4 finale was an all-Lebo affair as Stevie D'Angelo combined with Vinny Palmieri to beat Richie Phan and Jared Weinstein, 6-4, 6-1.

In consolation action, Shivom Sinha and Nick Navarre of Upper St. Clair defeated Ryan Pearson and Harris Tucker, 6-2, 6-2, to pick up a berth in the WPIAL tournament.

Meanwhile Sid Sathi and Dylan DePaul-Lindsay of Chartiers Valley lost their bid to advance to the WPIAL tournament when they lost their consolation match,76, 7-5.

In AA action, Jimmy Taylor and Bobby Svidron of Keystone Oaks earned runner-up honors for Section 5.

Taylor and Svidron dropped a 6-2, 6 -3, decision to Matt DiLucia and Chad Succop from Thomas Jefferson in the championship.
