Outreach program for preteens and parents

The Washington Hospital Teen Outreach offers an early intervention program for young people in grades four through eight and their parents.

This one-on-one, home-based program works with the parents and their preteen to educate, strengthen their parent/child relationship, improve communication skills and develop decision-making skills.

Car cruise planned in Monongahela

The second annual "Motoring on the Mon" car cruise will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7 in the Aquatorium parking lot (a private city park) located between Second and Fourth streets in Monongahela. The 10th annual Featique on the Mon will also take place on this day.

Vehicle registration is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Minimal registration charge.

Canonsburg General Hospital has been selected as a winner in the 2008 Achievement Awards contest, sponsored by the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania.

The winning entry, Patient Focused Changes in Emergency Department Processes Leads to Increased Patient Satisfaction and Growth, described the processes that the hospital's emergency department staff implemented to improve patient flow.

Washington Hospital receives award

The Washington Hospital recently received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines-Coronary Artery Disease (GWTG-CAD) Silver Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes The Washington Hospital's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.

New communication source at hospital

Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals at The Washington Hospital are using a new communication system that instantly connects them to each other, improving staff communication and patients' stays at the hospital.

The clip-on communication device called the Vocera Badge enables healthcare professionals to spend more time with patients, rather than spending so much time returning pages or telephone calls.

By pressing a button on the badge and saying aloud an individual's name, title or job function, badge wearers are instantly connected to the staff members they need.

More than 1,400 healthcare professionals at The Washington Hospital are using the Vocera badge. Future plans include giving badges to families of surgery patients, so that they can grab a bite to eat or take a walk while they are waiting and not worry about missing an update on their loved one's progress.

The staff of the Canon-McMillan School District recently participated in a weight loss individual and team challenge to benefit children's services at Canonsburg General Hospital. A total of $253 was donated to be used by the hospital staff for health education in the schools.
