Westminster College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) successfully defended its divisional championship at the SIFE Regional Competition held recently in Philadelphia, qualifying for the May national competition in Chicago. Local team members included: Stephen Previs, son of Charles and Rose Previs of Bethel Park and graduate of Bethel Park High School; Jeffrey Downey, son of Robert and Maria Downey of Pittsburgh and graduate of Seton-La Salle High School; Jared Foster, son of William and Debora Foster of Pittsburgh and graduate of Seton-La Salle High School. Colleen Lataille, a senior elementary education and Spanish major at Westminster College, received the Clara E. Cockerille Memorial Scholarship and the George B. Clemens and Dorothy M. Clemens Memorial Scholarship recently. She was also recently inducted into the Pi Sigma Pi Honors Convocation. A graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, she is the daughter of Diane Lataille of Pittsburgh. The following Westminster College students were recently honored for academic excellence: Marisa Monahan, daughter of Mark and Sharon Monahan and graduate of Brentwood High School, she was awarded the John and Clara Bruhn Memorial Scholarship; Joshua Sarchet, son of Thomas and JoAnn Sarchet of Pittsburgh and graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, he was awarded the Frank L. & Esther Van Dyke McClure Music Scholarship and the Mina Grundish Simpson Scholarship.
Amanda Miller, daughter of Thomas and Linda Miller of Pittsburgh and graduate of Baldwin High School, was recently inducted into Pi Sigma Pi Honors Convocation at Westminster College.
Kelley Hallett was recently inducted into the Westminster College chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. She is the daughter of Barry and Karen Hallett of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Chartiers Valley High School. Kristin Webler, a student at Westminster College, was the recipient of the D. Alan & Llwanda K. Williams Scholarship Fund Award. She was also recently inducted into the Westminster College chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. She is the daughter of Martin and Cynthia Webler of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School.
Asher Epstein of Upper St. Clair is spending the spring 2008 semester studying overseas in Hong Kong through the SU Abroad program at Syracuse University, where Epstein is a junior.
Neily Rosko of Bridgeville, a social work/psychology major at Community College of Allegheny County-South Campus, has been named to the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team for outstanding achievements in the classroom and the community. The program offers free tuition to awardees to complete their bachelor's degrees at any of the 14 state universities. Jacob Hoyson, son of Marylin and Reid Hoyson of Mt. Lebanon, was the recipient of the Richard F. Hettlinger Award at the Honors Day Convocation held recently at Kenyon College. A graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Hoyson is a senior majoring in drama. Allison Hughes, a music education major at Grove City College, was recently inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi international education honorary. She is the daughter of David and Vera Hughes of McDonald. Kevin Steen, a senior at Upper St. Clair High School, has been awarded Kansas State University's Honors Scholarship. He will be attending the College of Architecture, Planning and Design.
Sara Colosimo, daughter of John and Cheryl Colosimo of Mt. Lebanon, graduated Summa Cum Laude recently from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor's degree in health sciences. She also received the Outstanding Student Award in Community Health. After a summer internship in South Carolina, Colosimo will continue her education at UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing to pursue a career in anesthesia.
