Hoop news

With the recent WPIAL realignment, the path to the playoffs just became harder for the Chartiers Valley High School basketball program.

Both the girls and the boys teams captured section titles and advanced to the Final Four in the Class AAA playoffs this past winter.

While the Colts will remain in Section 4-AAA, Moon drops down a division in the boys classification while South Park moves up from Class AA in the girls grouping.

Moon won Section 4 in Quad-A and advanced to the WPIAL finals and the PIAA semifinals last season.

South Park won the WPIAL title and finished 22-9 overall.

Keystone Oaks, Montour, West Allegheny and West Mifflin are common section opponents for the CV boys and girls, who enjoy playing doubleheaders. The CV boys also play South Park while the CV girls welcome Steel Valley into their league as well.

At the Quad-A level, Ringgold joins Baldwin, Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, Mt. Lebanon, Peters Township and Upper St. Clair in boys and girls competition. The Trinity girls remain in Section 4-AAAA.

The boys and girls teams from Bishop Canevin, Seton-La Salle and South Fayette remain at the Class AA level and will compete in Section 3.

Lebo lacrosse

Thanks to two overtime victories recently, Mt. Lebanon moved into first place in the WPSLA Divison 1 South section.

In a defensive battle with Bethel Park, Tim Barr scored 1:40 seconds into the extra period to lift the Blue Devils to a 3-2 win.

Lebo next rallied from a three-goal deficit in the fourth frame to knot the contest before Bijon Firouzan registered the decisive goal against Franklin Regional.

In follow up action, Lebo defeated Upper St. Clair, 8-3.

Brad Allen notched two goals while Barr, Dan Roman, Zach Lamport, Chris White, Firouzan, and Jameson Hall each scored. Will Round saved 11 shots on goal.
