Canon-McMillan visits Mt. Lebanon
After routing their respective opponents, 41-26 and 47-27, Canon-McMillan and Mt. Lebanon will be more evenly matched in their Great Southern Conference clash.
Both clubs are 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
In CM's win over Baldwin, Zach Hoffman continued to come into his own at quarterback. He completed 6 of 8 attempts for 148 yards and one TD strike, a 78-yard bomb to Michael Hull. Hoffman has completed 41 of his 82 attempts this season for 656 yards.
In addition to Hull, who is a standout linebacker on defense and a Penn State recruit, the Big Macs boast Ohio State-bound Chad Hagan and Alex Schram in its ever-improving secondary. While Hagan rushed for two scores of 1 and 6 yards against the Highlanders, Schram picked off two passes and returned them 37 and 40 yards for touchdowns.
Also, in the win, Alex Adams scored on a 28-yard run.
Hagy's sidekick in the backfield, Luke Alberts supplied a 5-yard score on offense and the All-Conference defensive back provided a 58-yard score on defense off an interception.
Devon Lauer also scored for Lebo on a 2-yard rush.
Alberts, Hagy and Lauer account for all but 14 of Lebo's 713 rushing yards this season. Alberts leads with 376 yards followed by Hagy with 240. Lauer has 85 yards.
Mike Martin continues to lead with 17 receptions with 198 yards. Tom Sims and Paul Lang follow with 11 and 4 receptions respectively for 54 and 24 yards.
Meanwhile, after its 4-0 start, Peters Township has dropped two straight games. In the loss to Lebo, Justin Miller scored twice, once on a 79-yard kick-off return and once on an 18-yard run. Andrew Erenberg added a 39-yard TD run while Egan Balish hauled in a 23-yard TD pass from Austin Hancock.
The Indians visit Bethel Park for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off Friday, Oct. 16.
Class AA
South Fayette jumped to a three-touchdown lead and held on to defeat Seton-La Salle, 21-14, in a key Century Conference contest last week.
With the win, the Lions improved to 6-0 overall while the Rebels slipped to 4-2.
In the win, Christian Brumbaugh completed 10 of 12 aerials for 174 yards and one touchdown strike of 80 yards to Jeff Davis. Brumbaugh has 74 completions on 119 attempts for 919 yards and 17 scores.
Aside from Tyler Challingsworth's 100-yard interception, Brumbaugh's opponent, Anthony Rizza is just as accurate. In addition to rushing for 104 yards and a touchdown, Rizza completed 14 of 28 passes for 183 yards. He leads the WPIAL with 85 completions on 133 attempts for 1,214 yards and 10 scores.
His top targets against the Lions were Jake Novicki and Kevin Hart. Each has five receptions for 96 and 32 yards respectively. Hart also scored on a 9-yard run while Jonathon Gardner opened the scoring for the Lions with a 2-yard plunge into the end zone.
Novicki, who returned to the line-up after a two-week absence due to illness, ranks among the receiving leaders in the WPIAL with 41 catches for 377 yards.
While the Lions host Cornell in their next Century Conference clash, the Rebels travel to Steel Valley for their next contest. Both games are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
In other Century Conference action, Keystone Oaks defeated Bishop Canevin, 42-3.
Lee Shearn opened and closed the scoring. He caught a 90-yard pass from Matt Buckley to start the contest and returned an interception 85 yards for the final score. Buckley completed just three passes but they measured 133 yards.
In between, Jordan Maddox scored twice on runs of 56 and 3 yards. Rico Canello returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown and Jordan Maddox rambled 80 yards for another score.
For the Crusaders, Drake Greer kicked a 45-yard field goal. That made the score 14-3 before the Golden Eagles went on a four-touchdown spree.
While the Golden Eagles (5-1) visit Quaker Valley, the Crusaders (2-4) will host Northgate at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at Dormont Stadium.
Class A
Chartiers-Houston looks to recover from its 63-3 loss to Clairton when the Buccaneers host Serra Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
Zach Hamilton's 28-yard field goal accounted for the Bucs' only scoring against the Bearcats.
