Two Upper St. Clair students have been cast in the upcoming world premiere production of "Mary Shelley and Her Frankenstein" which will run from Nov. 12-16 at the New Hazlett Theater on the Northside. Sarah and Ben Nadler will play the roles of the "young boy" and "young girl" in the scenes that depict Mary Shelley's memories of her children. Sarah is a sophomore at Upper St. Clair High School and Ben is a fifth grader at Boyce Middle School. Sarah has performed in school productions including the role of Marion in Ft. Couch Middle School's "Music Man" and in four productions of Pittsburgh Savoyards, with her most recent role in the production of HMS Pinafore last June. Ben made his debut with Savoyards in the same production. Ben's recent roles included the title role in "Stewart Little" with the South Park Children's Theatre and Little Jake in the CLO's production of "Annie Get Your Gun." Johanna Nadler believes that this is the first serious adult production for her children.
"It is a wonderful opportunity for them to work with these Pittsburgh professional artists from the director, set designer... the whole team. And since this is a world premiere - to think that they are creating these roles for the first time is very exciting." Tuesday Musical Club presents "Mary Shelley and Her Frankenstein" a music drama written and composed by longtime Mt. Lebanon resident Shirley Barasch. Based on diaries, letters and the accounts of friends, "Mary Shelley and Her Frankenstein" is an entertaining and intriguing insight into the life and work of Gothic literature's most notorious author--the passion and anguish of Mary Shelley's life while she struggles with Dr. Frankenstein's creature, the subject of her first science fiction novel, her role as a woman of the time period, and the demands of her famous poet husband Percy Shelley. Leading the artistic and production team are: director Richard Keitel, music director Nancy Gordon Galluzzo of Mt. Lebanon, producing director David Nash, set designer Tony Ferrieri of Mt. Lebanon, make-up and hair designer Rod Carter, lighting designer Josh Monroe and choreographer Kiesha Lalama-White. Tickets are available through www.proartstickets.org or by calling 412-394-3353.
