By Lorraine Gregus Columnist lgregus@thealmanac.net Ed and Anna Dunlap of Upper St. Clair are a true Renaissance couple. They've just been selected Outstanding Philanthropists by the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. They've also recently added Amigos Restaurante & Cantina to their array of restaurants. As owners of CentiMark Corporation, building roofs around the world, Ed and Anna are not strangers to sharing their fortune. For at least 20 years the CentiMark Foundation has annually provided local students with financial assistance to trade schools and colleges through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Peters Township Meals on Wheels and St. Jude Hospital in Memphis are just a few additional humanitarian efforts benefiting from the foundation. While Ed fills most days in the roofing contracting business at CentiMark's headquarters in Southpointe, Anna's decorating talents are wonderfully complementary.
With an added eye for detail from designer Amy Storrs, Anna and Amy have recently created a bright and cheerful cuisine at Amigos in McMurray. Colorful booths, chairs and table coverings direct from Mexico give hungry folks a look of Old Mexico at its best. "Since we met in a restaurant more than 38 years ago, I guess you can say our connection to restaurants took hold right from the start," agreed Ed and Anna. "We married soon after and ironically planned a LeMont reception." Passionate with its atmosphere and Mt. Washington location, Ed jokingly admitted hoping to someday own the restaurant. Years passed and one day as conversation led to the LeMont's possible sale, Ed knew time had come to make this magnificent restaurant his. With the LeMont's elegance at its peak, the owners' diversity in tastes and designs had Ed and Anna planning other openings. Combining their artistic talents in additional restaurants, Anna and Amy searched through maps and shamrocks for the perfect Gaelic touch. Art Deco sophistication and one other restaurant featuring a southwestern prairie look soon followed adding excitement as well as fun to their restaurant ventures. Vivid colors and fanciful awnings are now attracting second glances to McMurray's Amigos. Most folks heading north or south on Route 19 are caught up with its outdoor appeal. And those who haven't walked through the restaurant's doors are missing authentic Mexican atmosphere. Ed and Anna have once more created an awesome stop. A great place to gather with friends for both food and fun. Mexican favorites at Amigos and the Tuscan menu and appearance of Amici's on Route 51 are the Dunlaps' most recent Pittsburgh achievements. Committed to providing dining experiences throughout western Pennsylvania and improving the quality of life for countless men, women and children, Ed and Anna Dunlap are a positive influence and outstanding residents of the South Hills.
