By Kathy Kasunich For The Almanac writer@thealmanac.net Two Pittsburgh celebrities were seen filming scenes for the movie End Game at Cefalos's Restaurant and Nightclub in Carnegie. "End Game" is a psychological thriller about a serial killer who impersonates several characters to elude the police. Kurt Angle, former Olympic wrestling champion and Mt. Lebanon native, has the lead as the serial killer. Jenna Morasca, formerly from Bridgeville and contestant on the 2003 "Survivor", is the heroine. She plays Carol Peterlake, roommate of one of the victims. The film is a true Pittsburgh collaboration. All of the actors, crew, producers and screenplay writer are Pittsburghers. The movie is being filmed throughout Pittsburgh.
John Iwanonkiw of Peters Township, is the executive producer. He is also the assistant director through North Shore Pictures in Cranberry Township, which was formed in January. Iwanonkiw is no newcomer to the movie industry. He has acted in and or directed over 100 films. One of the more famous films he has appeared in was a documentary for National Geographic Magazine about the Quecreek Miners in Somerset. He has done films since he was 18, but now devotes more time to film making since retiring from the railroad. He loves this craft and enjoys doing student films for Point Park College and Art Institute of Pittsburgh. "I love what I do. It's not just about the money but sharing my skills and producing a film that people will enjoy," Iwanonkiw said. He completed the horror film "19 Doors" that will be released on DVD. He completes most of his films on a shoestring budget since he and many of the principals do just about everything. Many of the actors volunteer their time. Instant celebrity After winning the grand prize in the "Survival" TV series, Morasca became an instant celebrity, model and actress. She has appeared in TV shows and finished her third movie "The Watcher," a horror film made in New Hampshire. " End game" will be her fourth film and largest role. Morasca had no idea that her role on "Survival" would open so many doors. Morasca lives in New York but still loves Pittsburgh for its friendliness, calmness and down home family values. Although she loves acting and plans doing more films she promised her parents she would complete her college degree. That promise will be fulfilled in June 2009 when she receives her BS degree from Argosy University in psychology with a concentration in substance abuse. Divides time Angle wrestled after winning the 1996 Olympic gold medal and resides part time in Moon Township and Los Angeles. Angle left the WWE two years ago to work with TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling). He said TNA has been supportive. Angle is trying to make the crossover to acting and was excited to play the role of the serial killer in "End Game" since the character has dimensions that challenged him. Like Morasca, "End Game" provides his largest role as an actor. He will have another leading role in "Escape From Hell" to be filmed in California. Angle and Morasca will be reunited also on TNA on an episode of "Main Event Mafia" in which Morasca is his psychologist. Morasca said, "Kurt is a great hard worker, kind, polite and excellent actor who plays his character to a tee in the movie." Angle had similar sentiments about Morasca, stating, "She is very driven and will have a lot of success, and she has all the skills and abilities to succeed. Local actors Although Morasca and Angle are the biggest local celebrities, there are many other South Hills residents who will appear in the film, including Ina Block from Carnegie, Dick Rush from Upper St. Clair, Natalie Bail and Norm Wash from Bethel Park and Lake Asburry from South Park. The filming of End Game should be finished this month. Projected release date is February 2009.
