writer@thealmanac.net" >by Eric Seiverling, Freelance Reporter For Mt. Lebanon residents Bill and Beth Jesserer and their three kids Daniel, Grace and Dima, Christmas came a little early this year. The family was recently chosen to appear on Verizon's new reality television show "My Home 2.0," which features three hosts, known as techno gurus, giving families a technological home makeover with new computers, telephone systems, televisions and even new furniture. The show airs Saturday mornings on Fox 53, and the Jesserer's episode is scheduled to air sometime in mid-December. Beth Jesserer admitted to being behind the times when it comes to technology.
"We had one computer for the whole family so we had no idea what technology was out there," she said. "My husband was at South Park one day and saw that the show was taking applicants so he talked to them. A few weeks later, we got a call from them." The show features three hosts, Brian Albert, Lloyd Emelle and Yue Xu, along with a crew of about 50 people, taking over a house and installing new technology in just a few days. Of course, the Jesserers weren't allowed to see what was being installed in their home. "We lived in an RV in the driveway," said Beth, a teacher at the St. Anne School. "We let them literally take over the house. We were treated like royalty and everybody was so nice." When the family was allowed to finally see what was installed in their house at the reveal a few weeks ago, the family saw that they had received new computers with Fios, new furniture, a 47" LCD television and even a popcorn machine. "They made our basement look like a movie theater," Beth said. The makeover also included a batcave for Daniel, which features a new computer, an Xbox 360 and a stage for his Guitar Hero videogame. "There's a secret book in the bookcase you have to pull to open the door of the batcave," Daniel, 11, said. Daniel also said his new room will allow him to concentrate better on school projects. "We don't have to fight over the computer anymore," he said. Daniel may have settled into his batcave, but Beth admitted the family is still getting used to the new technology in their home. "We still don't know how to use everything," she said with a chuckle. "We have one clicker that controls everything. We can turn on the television so at least we can watch the Steelers. That's the important thing." For more information on "My Home 2.0," visit www.2point home.com.
