The win on the Colts’ home court enabled Lebo to pull even in the race for the Section 4-AAAA title. Both teams now own identical 8-1 slates in the league. CV, however, is 14-2 overall while Lebo improved to 12-4.
Anyang exploded for 15 of his points in the second half. He scored eight points in the final frame, one less than the Colts tallied in the entire eight-minute span. While the 6-3 senior drained two, 3-point field goals, he was at his best on the boards and in dishing up a nifty assist to Dylan White. Anyang had taken a feed from Luke Hagy for what appeared to be an easy hoop. Instead, he found White under the basket. White scored off the dish, giving Lebo a 46-38 advantage with 2:12 to play.
“That was a great performance,” said Lebo head coach Joe David. “(Kamic) played within himself. He gets better and better each game and tonight he got even better. He made great shots. He hit the offensive and defensive boards. He runs well and had some nice assists.
“We go as he goes,” David added.
Anyang and Roth connected on 3-pointers but CV used its athleticism to maintain a slim lead, 33-32, after three frames.
Though CV threatened to break open the contest when Deyshawn Martin, off an assist from Wayne Capers, ignited the crowd with a thunderous dunk. Capers, off an assist from Christian Kuntz, also had a dunk. However, the Colts went cold in the final frame.
Lebo outscored CV, 19-9, in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils also sealed the win at the line, connecting on all four of their attempts. Lebo was 7 of 9 in the second half at the charity stripe. CV made just eight free throws on 15 attempts.
Joining Anyang in double digits was Hagy with 16 markers. Roth tallied nine. Chris Bendel provided three points.
Capers and Kuntz paced the Colts with 14 and 11 points respectively. Martin finished with nine while Jerrad Tuite tossed in six off two, 3-point field goals.
Lebo hosts Bethel Park at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 while the Colts host Canon-McMillan.
The Hawks are coming off an overtime win against Peters Township, 43-40, while the Big Macs suffered a 48-45 defeat against Moon.
Brian Holland, Cody Gilchrist and Trey Coyne all tallied 10 points for BP while Gabe Pritz and Trent McPherson led the PT attack with 17 and 12 markers respectively.
Tops for the Big Macs was Kenyadda Brown with 10 points.
