John and Margaret (Berus) Eckenrode of Canonsburg celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 27 with a family celebration.
John and Margaret were married Dec. 27, 1952, at St. Mary’s Church in Conneaut, Ohio.
They are the parents of John (Pam) Eckenrode of Ocean View, DE; Debbie (Richard) Lawson of Finleyville; Bob (Linda) Eckenrode of Mt. Lebanon; Tom Eckenrode of Canonsburg; Mary (Mark) Mikec of McMurray; Charles (Claudia) Eckenrode of Canonsburg; Cindy (Charles) Evanoski of Wexford; Janet (Gary) Wall of Eighty-Four; Judy (Rob) Asbell of Venetia; Susan (Dave) Rendulic of Mt. Lebanon; Brian (Kelly) Eckenrode of Gibsonia, Ken (Kelly) Eckenrode of Cranberry; and the grandparents of 52 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
John served on active duty during the Korean War as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. John retired from Penn Mutual Life Insurance after 45 years and works for Knights of Columbus.
Margaret is a retired registered nurse, having worked at Mercy Hospital for 10 years and Canonsburg Hospital for seven years. John and Margaret both participated in the National Senior Olympics in cycling in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011, with John earning two bronze medals and Margaret earning two silver and six gold.
The couple enjoys spending time with their grandchildren and volunteering in their community.
