Mt. Lebanon High School student Mark Klemencic attended his first meeting Jan. 7 as junior commissioner, a position he will hold for the spring semester.

Klemencic, a senior with a cumulative GPA of 4.8, has been president of the Freshman Class Council and later, the Sophomore Class Council.

The Firwood Drive resident is on the forensics team, where he received first place in the original oratory category at the Pittsburgh District National Qualifying Tournament.

“Mark’s passion for learning, although significant, is eclipsed by his desire to serve others,” wrote his high school counselor, John Ambrose, in his application. “A scholarly student, a talented artist and orator, an individual dedicated to public service, Mark is truly a renaissance man.”

Junior commissioners serve for one semester and are selected after applying and being interviewed by the five commissioners. During their terms, they attend regular meetings, reporting on issues of concern to students and taking back valuable information about local government to the student body.
