Make sure dogs are on leash
Leashes on dogs is not an option. We have wonderful outdoor resources available to use in the South Hills from the Montour Trail to the walking paths and Wetland area in Upper St. Clair. At all of these locations, it is clearly marked that all dogs are to be on a leash and that the owners must clean up after their pets.
There are baggies available and many waste receptacles. Yet, time and time again you will encounter people with their dogs off leash and (A) dog waste that have not been cleaned or (B) my personal favorite – bags left on the side of the trail. I have come back the next day to see that the bag still remains on the side of the trail.
The volunteers who maintain the trails are not there to clean up after your pet. It is a shame that the selfish actions of a few may ruin a wonderful resource for all because they refuse to follow the rules. If you want your dog off leash, find somewhere designated as off leash to exercise them. Otherwise, put them on a leash, clean up after them and throw their waste away in the appropriate containers.
