Scott to provide officer for CV school
Scott Township commissioners unanimously approved an agreement between Scott Township and the Chartiers Valley School District regarding providing an armed, uniformed School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Chartiers Valley Intermediate School.
The SRO will be an employee of Scott, will work at the school during the school year and be on duty in the township during the summer. Scott Township will bill Chartiers Valley School District $7,500 per month in 2013 and $7,875 in 2014. At the end of each calendar year, Scott will compare actual costs to budgeted costs to see if the school district is owed a refund.
Edward Povirk, who retired from the Scott police department after 21 years of service, will serve as SRO after completing recertification for police work. Povirk, who served as a DARE officer at Chartiers Valley for 10 years, was unanimously reinstated by the board as a police officer for the township. Scott Police Chief Jim Secreet said Jan. 22 he will use another officer to fulfill the contract with the district until Povirk is recertified for police work. Secreet expects Povirk to be on the job within the first two weeks of February.
