Canon-McMillan High School and Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) are partnering to provide a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Completion Session for Canon-McMillan parents and students from noon-7 p.m. Feb. 6 in the high school library. Parents will be able to complete their FAFSA with assistance from the experts in financial aid. To reserve a spot, contact the high school guidance office at 724-745-1400.
Parent Tech Night
Parents of students who attend Neil Armstrong Middle School in Bethel Park are invited to attend a Parent Technology/Social Media Night at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6. This parents-only program will provide parents with information about technology and website safety, with an emphasis on social media sites, including instagram.
The program is free and is open to all Neil Armstrong Middle School parents.
The Giant Oaks Garden Club awards a $1,000 scholarship each year to a student entering into an environmental field or a field of biology other than the medical field. Scholarship packets can be obtained at any high school guidance counselor office. Ask any Giant Oaks Garden Club member, or call Scholarship Chairperson Cathy Rager at 412-653-1988 for details. The deadline for this year’s application is April 10.
Ralph B. Canterbury Scholarship
Applications are now being accepted for Clearview Federal Credit Union’s 14th Annual Ralph B. Canterbury Scholarship Award. This year, ten scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. Winners will be honored at the Credit Union’s Annual Meeting held at the RMU Island Sports Center, Pittsburgh, on June 22.
The scholarship award is open to new and current Clearview members. Applicants will be judged on a number of criteria including: academic performance, community activities/involvement, personal goals and an essay on “Why I choose to belong to Clearview FCU.” Applications must be received by Clearview by April 1, 2013. Applications are now available for the 2013 Pittsburgh CLO Summer Internship Program. The program runs approximately 10 weeks beginning in mid-May to early August, depending upon the internship being applied for, and affords students 18 years of age and older the opportunity to work one-on-one with musical theater industry professionals.
Internships are available in the following areas: Cabaret Theater, Choreography, Company Management, Costume Coordination, Development, Education & Outreach, Graphic/Web Design, Hair Design, Lighting Design, Musical Direction, Production Management, Property Coordination, Public Relations, Sound Design, Special Events/Admin, Stage Direction, Stage Management and Video Production.
By working behind-the-scenes on Pittsburgh CLO’s 2013 Summer Season, interns will receive professional training and invaluable hands-on experience in both musical theater and nonprofit administration. Running May 31-Aug. 4 at the Benedum Center, CLO’s 2013 Summer Season will feature “42nd Street,” “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” Kopit & Yeston’s “Phantom,” Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” and “Buddy – the Buddy Holly Story.”

Washington County Parks will sponsor a homeschool outdoor classroom for ages 5-11, Love Birds, at the park’s office on Feb. 14. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Learn to identify birds, take part in a seed study and make a bird feeder to take home. Bring a clean and dry soda or water bottle.

The Black Association of South Hills (BASH) is accepting applications for 2013 scholarships. African-American high school seniors who attend Bethel Park, Canon-McMillan, Chartiers-Houston, Chartiers Valley, Mt. Lebanon, Peters, South Fayette, South Park, Thomas Jefferson, Trinity, Upper St. Clair or Washington may apply.
Applications may be obtained at www.bashforwomen.com or from the school’s guidance counselor. Applications must be returned by March 8.
The Canon-McMillan School District will have online kindergarten registration March 1-31 for the 2013-2014 school year.
Contact your child’s school to request a Secure ID Code in order to access the registration. If you do not have a computer, contact your child’s school for assistance with registration.
Kindergarten screenings will be held May 21.
