Wrestling Classic announces USA all-stars

The 39th annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic will be held March 17 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Fitzgerald Field House.

The feature match pits Pennsylvania’s best versus the USA all-stars at 6 p.m. While Virginia will challenge the western Pennsylvania all-stars at 4 p.m.

The Classic’s wrestling committee recently announced the wrestlers selected to compete for the USA team. The unit features eight, three-time state champions. The group has compiled a record of 1,675 wins against only 99 losses.

The line-up includes:

Paul Mascarenas from New Mexico at 113. Bound for South Dakota State University, he sports a 133-2 record at Cleveland High School.

Nathan Tomasello from Ohio at 120. Headed for Ohio State, he boasts a 127-5 record at Cuyahoga Valley Christian.

Joey Dance from Virginia at 126. The Christiansburg senior is 139-14 and committed to Virginia Tech.

Dean Heil from Ohio at 132. He is 91-5 at St. Edward and headed to Oklahoma State.

Anthony Ashnault from South Plainfield, New Jersey. The 138-pound grappler is a Rutgers recruit who is undefeated and sports a 130-0 record.

Benjamin Whitford from Michigan. A future Wolverine, the 145-pound wrestler is 128-1 at St. Johns.

Jake Short weighs in at 152. The Minnesota native and recruit is 189-20 at Simley.

Isaiah Martinez of California at 160. A two-time state champ, he is 152-6 at LeMoore and is bound for the University of Illinois.

Zachary Beard of Oklahoma at 170. Another three-time state champ, he is 122-9 at Tuttle. He is a Wyoming recruit.

Domenic Abounader of Ohio. The 182-pound grappler is 99-8 at St. Edward. The two-time state champ will wrestle at Michigan.

Broc Berge of Minnesota. The Iowa recruit is a two-time state champion out of Kasson-Mantorville. The 195-pounder sports a 130-6 record.

Frank Mattiace of New Jersey. Bound for the University of Pennsylvania, the 220-pound wrestler is 123-15 with one state title.

Brooks Black, like Mattiace, is from Blair Academy. The New Jersey native owns three state crowns and a 112-8 record.
