Once again, the Peters Township Public Library will be the venue used to display the photography gallery produced by media class members to display their photos.

Partnered with the library and Margaret Deitzer, head of the reference department, the photography classes at Peters Township High School will assemble the showcase Feb. 21 in time for the open house that night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the lobby of the Peters Township Public Library. The display will last through March 7 when the photographs are taken down after school.

Erin Boni, a high school media teacher, said about 100 students are taking part in the showcase this year. The word showcase was chosen because none of the photos will be offered for sale, and no prizes will be awarded to the students.

Holding the showcase at the library is a great place to display the pictures, Boni said.

Most of the photographs, all taken by the high school students, will be in the lobby, with some hanging on the stairway.

“It’s a great space for us so we can leave it up and it won’t be destroyed, like it could be in the school,” Boni said. “People go to the library and they like to look around and observe. It’s really a great partnership.”

This is the seventh year the photo gallery has been display in the library, Boni said.

Pier Lee, library director, said the photography showcase is a good mix for the library and the school.

“The library is, as we are all aware, is not just books,” Lee said. “A community partnership is very, very important for the library today. We sponsor a lot of things.”

The display used to be held at the end of May, but was moved to the end of February when there is less competition for time.

Six officers in the Photography Club picked the pictures to be displayed.
