Margie McCaffrey leads Mt. Lebanon into battle Friday, Feb. 22 against Franklin Regional in the WPIAL Quad-A playoffs. The quarterfinal contest will be played at North Allegheny. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m.
The WPIAL has announced sites for the Friday, Feb. 22 quarterfinal basketball playoff games involving Almanac teams. Visit www.wpial.org for all the pairings.
The choice site is Canon-McMillan as the Big Macs will host a boy/girl doubleheader featuring Chartiers Valley. The Lady Colts (17-6) will challenge Upper St. Clair (12-11) at 6:30 p.m. while their male counterparts will battle South Fayette (14-9) following at 8 p.m.
The No. 1 seeded Mt. Lebanon (21-2) ladies will face Fox Chapel (18-5) at 6:30 p.m. Friday at North Allegheny. The Blue Devils are coming off a 50-30 win versus Franklin Regional. In that first-round win, Alex Ventrone and Christine Ehland finished in double figures with 16 and 13 points respectively.
In another Quad-A girls’ playoff game, No. 3 Bethel Park (20-3) plays Penn-Trafford (19-4) at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Baldwin. The Lady Hawks are coming off a first-round win against Norwin, 61-31. Megan Marecic and Samantha Simpson each chalked up 14 points in the triumph.
In Class AA girls’ action, defending WPIAL and state champion Seton-La Salle (22-1) squares off against Greensburg Central Catholic (17-6) at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel Park while Bishop Canevin (19-4) takes on Mohawk (17-6) at West Allegheny.
In their first-round game, the Lady Rebels thumped Washington, 61-20. Naje Gibson fired in 17 points to lead SLS.
Canevin downed Neshannock, 65-28. Erin Waskowiak exploded for 31 points in the victory. Carly Forse and Celina DiPietro followed with 15 and 11 markers.
