After months and months of waiting, the Target at South Hills Village is now open for business.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and reception was held on March 5 for special guests and local dignitaries, giving them a chance to preview what the new store has to offer, followed by Target’s soft opening March 6.

Store manager Jen Fiegel commented that the company built a beautiful store at South Hills Village. “We’re so excited to invite them through our doors as guests, with the hope that those who enter as guests leave as family.”

As an anchor store, shoppers will be able to access the rest of the mall from Target. In addition to the bright, open look and the familiar red “target” logo, shoppers will find several unique, and welcome, features at the South Hills Village location. While not a Super Target, this store has a full grocery, including large freezer and refrigeration sections. A wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables is also available, along with an assortment of pre-packaged meats and baked goods.

Shoppers looking for a quick bite are sure to enjoy the Pizza Hut located near the main entrance facing Route 19. And for those looking for a caffeine fix before doing some power shopping can make Starbucks, adjacent to the main entrance, their first stop.

Patty Minor works at the mall and said it will be great to stop in Target for lunch or a coffee. “I’m really excited about Starbucks and Pizza Hut,” she said.

Laura Bradley of Scott Township also works at the mall and said it will be nice to be able to walk to Target when she’s on a break or before or after work. Another Scott resident, Andrea Karsesnick, said the new store was “great.” Karsesnick said she’s only been to the Target in Robinson twice because she doesn’t like to drive out there.

South Hills resident Laura Gonnella, who says she “loves Target,” used to drive to Washington or Robinson when she wanted to shop there. Now that there’s a Target at South Hills Village, she said it will only be a five minute drive.

Bob Orchowski, president of the Upper St. Clair board of commissioners, commented, “The opening of Target reflects the continued vitality of the mall and surrounding neighborhoods.”

Bethel Park mayor Cliff Morton said, “In addition to making area shoppers happy, Target provided an opportunity for young kids to get a good job with a great company.”

The South Hills Village Target employs approximately 200 people.

The official “grand opening” of the store is set for Mar. 10. Store hours are 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
