Peters Twp. woman publishes second devotional bookPublished Mar 13, 2013 at 1:46 pm (Updated Mar 13, 2013 at 1:46 pm)
Peters Township resident Cookie White recently published her second devotional book, “Being Led Beside Still Waters,” and she is donating a portion of the proceeds to former neighbors, Alexis and Doug Vitale – Doug was severely injured after stepping on a land mine while serving in Afghanistan. Currently, the pair is living in Florida while Doug recovers from losing both legs and a traumatic brain injury.
“I always tithe, and with the second book, I am trying to make a fund for them so that they can live more full lives and come back to Pittsburgh,” White said. “We were all devastated here on the street, and I thought if there was anything that I could do for them, I would like that.”
“Being Led Beside Still Waters” contains 41 devotions, inspired from everyday life. “You want people to realize that life can be good, God can speak to you,” she said. “You can take and use that spiritual insight, and it keeps you going.”
The devotion titles include “What Happens When You Lost Your Whistle,” “iPods” and “In Remission.”
White formed an online teaching ministry, the Sounding Board Teaching Ministries, and wrote devotions, taught bible study online, and spoke at retreats occasionally. She began her quest to publish her devotions in a book in 2010, after her husband, Gary, retired. “He said, ‘You have followed me everywhere. What is something that you want to do?’ And I said, ‘I’ve always wanted to put these devotionals that I write online into a book,’” she said.
And, after she self-published her first book, “And I Heard God Whisper: Walk with Me,” people began asking if she was going to write another.
White, the mother of Kimberly, 28 and Nicholas, 31 and grandmother to Lucy, who just turned a year old, will be signing copies of “Being Led Beside Still Waters” on March 23 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Farmhouse Coffee in McMurray. Copies of the book are available on White’s website, www.thesoundingboardteachingministries.com and www.amazon.com, and are downloadable for Kindle. She will also have copies for sale at the signing.
