Friends of Hollywood to host events

The Friends of the Hollywood Theater announce the following events at The Hollywood Theater in Dormont:

• “Mr. Darcy Alert!” - 7 p.m. March 15. The Jane Austen Society of North America, Pittsburgh Chapter presents Jane at the Hollywood, a night of features, clips, and spirited discussion of the many film versions of “Pride and Prejudice.” The event is $10. For information, visit

• “Wunder-Sleeze” - 7 p.m. March 14. Trundle Manor takes over the Hollywood Theater with Trundle Manor’s Traveling Creepshow, movies from Sleaze Palace, the Squidling Brothers sideshow, bands, vendors and more. Tickets are $10 in advance at, and $15 at the door.

• The Appalshop Film Series - 4 p.m. March 17, with “Stranger with a Camera,” a documentary investigating the circumstances surrounding the 1967 death of Canadian filmmaker Hugh O’Connor in the mountains of Central Appalachia. Doors open at 1 p.m. and local band Arlo Aldo will play in the lobby before the movie.

• Breakfast and a Movie – returns at 11 a.m. March 17 with John Huston’s 1951 classic “The African Queen,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. The catered event will feature Irish sodabread and potato pancakes. Breakfast begins at 11 and the movie starts at 11:30. Tickets are $15 at the theater and at Breakfast tickets must be purchased by March 14. Tickets for the movie only are $7 at the door. “The African Queen” will screen again 2 p.m. March 21 as part of the Hollywood’s monthly Senior Movie Matinee. Tickets are $5 for ages 65 and older.
