Bridgeville

The Bridgeville Public Library is currently holding a quilt exhibit all created by former Bridgeville native Jennifer Sams. The exhibit is the first in a series of ongoing art exhibits at the library. The quilt exhibit is on display through Mother’s Day, May 12, as the library is hosting Mother’s Day Tea on May 11.


During the summer, the library will display work by traditional frontier artist Andrew Knez Jr.


Canonsburg

BNY Mellon Wealth Management is accepting applications for grants from the Ernest Q. Johnson Trust established to support organizations providing activities for Canonsburg-area youth. Applications submitted by organizations must be postmarked by April 15. To apply to the fund, organizations must provide a proposal in letter form requesting money for a specific dollar amount for a special project or for general support, as well as the most recent financial statement and the IRS 501(c)3 tax determination.


Proposals may be mailed to Ernest Q. Johnson Trust, Laurie A. Moritz, BNY Mellon. 500 Grant St., Suite 3825, Pittsburgh 15258-0001.


Recipients will be announced and the funds will be distributed in May.


Chartiers Township

The Chartiers-Houston Library is accepting old photos of Chartiers Township and the Houston area for a new photo history book.


The book will be titled “Then and Now.” An old black and white photo will be placed on one page, and a color photo from 2013 will be placed on the facing page.


Businesses that would like to be featured in the book should call 724-745-7713 or 724-745-4300.


All proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit library programs and improvements to the library.


Green Tree

The Green Tree Historical Society is in need of volunteers to type, keep records, clip newspaper articles, research, transcribe tapes, arrange displays, write articles, update the website, and make computer entries. The hours of need are from 9 a.m-noon, and 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays.

The society’s membership drive is underway with dues still $10 for immediate family and $25 for groups and organizations.


Heidelberg

The Chartiers Valley Education Foundation is sponsoring “An Adult Evening of Trivia” at Heidelberg Fire Hall on April 6. All proceeds benefit The Chartiers Valley Education Foundation.


Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Team discount for up to 10 players, $180. Ticket includes: beer, mixers, soda, water and light snacks. Participants may bring additional snacks/beverages/byob. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and games begin at 7:30.

Mt. Lebanon

Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department will hold “Flapjacks and Quacks, Spring Trip to the Strip” on May 19 for ages 18 and older.


Guests will board a Molly’s Trolley at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center and travel to Station Square, where they will enjoy Sunday brunch at the Grand Concourse before boarding a chartered ‘Just Ducky’ Tour Boat for a land and water tour of the city and its rivers. The boat tour will end in the Strip District. Free time is allotted for shopping in the Strip before the return trip to the Rec Center.


The trolley will depart the Rec Center at 9:30 a.m. and return around 3:30 p.m.


Fee is $75 per person. Register by April 30.

Peters Township

It’s not too late to register for the 2013 cheerleading season. Online or mail registration is available up until March 31. Those registering between April 2-13 must add $25 to the regular fee. For additional information and costs, go to www.ptyca.org.


The cookie dough fundraiser is optional to offset the cost of uniform pieces. For every tub of cookie dough sold, students get $5 off the cost of the new uniform. To participate in the fundraiser, email info@ptyca.org.


Uniform fitting and swap will be held 6-8 p.m. April 17-18 in the township’s community room at the rear of the police station. There is no change to the 2013 uniform. Girls are asked to wear a bathing suit or leotard when trying on uniforms, and to wear socks to try on shoes.


The PTYCA takes no responsibility in the buying, selling or pricing of used uniforms.


• The deadline to go on a trip to Ohio Amish Country has been extended until April 2. A minimum of 35 must sign up or the trip on April 25 will be canceled. The cost is $108 and includes lunch, transportation and meal gratuity. The bus leaves the township at 6:30 a.m. To learn more or to sign up, call the recreation department at 724-942-5000.


Upper St. Clair

The California University of Pennsylvania Concert band, under the direction of Charles Marty Sharer, and Community Band South, co-directed by Dean Streator and James Bennet, will present the annual shared and combined free concert at 8 p.m. April 8. The concert will be held in the Upper St. Clair High School Theater. Each band will perform separately and then join to present John Philip Sousa’s “Semper Fidelis.”


Parking and admission are free. The high school is located at 1825 McLaughlin Run Road.
