The University of Pittsburgh will hosts its annual spring football game April 12 at Bethel Park High School.

According to BP Athletic Director Amy Scheuneman, the university likes to rotate the venue of the spring game and Pitt was looking for a location in the South Hills this year.

“We are excited to host this event to showcase our facility, promote community involvement, and provide support to a local institution,” she said.

While she is working with the Pitt staff on the planning, preparation and execution of this event, Scheuneman admitted that it is “a large undertaking.” She added, “but, it will be well worth the work.”

Prior to the actual Blue-Gold game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. in the stadium, there will be additional activities for all ages.

The “Fan Experience” begins at 5:30 and features family fun activities, including face painters, inflatables and live music.

A youth football clinic runs 6-6:45 on the two upper turf fields, located on the school grounds. Pitt players and coaches run the clinic, which is only open to students in grades 8 or lower. Cleats or football equipment are prohibited.

The game will air on ESPN3.com and on the Pitt Panthers Television on The Comcast Network (channel 188/210).

The event is a homecoming of sorts for two members of the Pitt squad. Former Mt. Lebanon skipper Chris Haering coaches the Panthers’ linebackers while Adam Lazenga is a red-shirt sophomore on the squad. The 6-0, 235-pound fullback played on BP’s WPIAL championship club in 2008.
