It appears that Scott residents will continue to keep pressure on their elected officials regarding the condition of Swallow Hill Road.

At the Scott commissioners’ March agenda meeting, several residents spoke to the board about the deteriorated roadway, and at the April 9 agenda meeting, more residents questioned when the heavily travelled road was going to be repaired.

Barbara Radvansky lives on Swallow Hill Road and said the condition of the road is causing a dangerous situation with cars swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid potholes. She begged the board, “Raise my taxes, raise my millage, just please fix this road.”

Echoing Radvansky’s sentiments was Agnes Delucca, who lives in Nob Hill Apartments. Delucca said she and her neighbors have to dodge oncoming traffic while traveling Swallow Hill, adding that driving on the road was like “riding a washboard.”

Board President Tom Castello said the township plans to repair the road this summer, but the project will take five or six months to complete once work is started. “Something is going to happen this year,” he stated.

The cost estimate for reconstruction of Swallow Hill from Scrubgrass Road past Nob Hill Apartments is $1.5 million, although Commissioner David Calabria is investigating alternative repairs that could cost less.

To finance the Swallow Hill repairs and other projects, the board is considering a bond issue. Earlier in the meeting, the board heard from Joe Muscatello of Boenning & Scattergood about factors to consider regarding bond issues.

In other business:

• James Stoker of the Scott Township Police Department was sworn in as police sergeant.

• The board discussed hiring public works summer employees and will be accepting applications for the positions until May 15. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
