Final subdivision plans, as well as site and land development plans, were approved unanimously by commissioners in South Fayette at the board’s May 16 voting meeting. The plans are for the development of the former 84 Lumber site along Route 50 in the township.
Newbury project manager Eric Newhouse said the Gateway Shops will be a “key piece in the redevelopment of the Route 50 corridor.”
The Gateway Shops are the first piece in the first phase in the development of the Newbury Market. This first part of the development will include two buildings, Newhouse said. One building will be a 23,000 square-foot space that will house “small shop retail,” including a restaurant, bank, medical offices and financial services. The other building will be a 2,000 square-foot coffee shop with drive-thru. No announcements as far as tenants were made by Newhouse at the meeting.
Commissioners also authorized the advertisement of a draft fireworks ordinance. The draft ordinance will be reviewed by commissioners at the June 11 workshop meeting and could be ready for approval by June 18. Township Manager Ryan Eggleston said at a prior meeting that the ordinance is being crafted because there was an incident in the township of someone setting off fireworks without a permit, which caused concern among nearby residents. In a separate action, the board voted on a vendor for this year’s July 3 fireworks display – American Fireworks, in the amount of $9,000.
In other business, the aboard approved the purchase of a 2001 Ford F350 pickup truck for $9,000 from Indiana Township. The truck will be used primarily by the parks and recreation department. Parks and Recreation Manager Miles “Butch” Truitt said the truck is in good shape and will accommodate up to six workers at once, as well as haul needed equipment. He said as it stood before, only two or three workers would be able to ride in the same truck.
Township Solicitor Jonathan Kamin informed the board that the closing on property purchased by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will take place either May 17 or 21.
