Reese Cody Eckenrode of Mt. Lebanon has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS). NSCS is the nation’s only interdisciplinary honors organization for first-year and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only, based on grade point average and class standing.
The following area students were named to the dean’s list at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, during the spring semester: Tyler Chabalie, Sean Egan, Jessica France and Jessica Salley, all of Bridgeville; Sean Kelly of Upper St. Clair; and Nicholas Miller of McDonald.
Kyle Crowley of McDonald has graduated from the University of Mount Union with a bachelor of science degree in physics.
Hannah Mae Stasenko of Peters Township finished her freshman year at the University of South Carolina as a Capstone Scholar, making the President’s List with a 4.0 for the year. Hannah has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She is a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and has earned the position of Capstone Ambassador.
Michael Houser, son of Susan and Thomas Houser of Venetia and a graduate of Peters Township High School, has graduated in the top two percent of his class, with highest distinction, from Penn State University with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He was selected as a student marshal, leading the procession for his department, the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the College of Engineering, and was also recognized on stage for his accomplishments.
Michael was the recipient of the President’s Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award and the Evan Pugh Scholar Award in both his junior and senior years. He was named to the dean’s list every semester and was the recipient of the II-VI Foundation Scholarship, the Edward R. Morrow Endowed Scholarship, the Louis A. Harding Memorial Scholarship and the Robert S. Wetmiller Scholarship.
Houser completed internships with The Boeing Company, Westinghouse Electric Company and Nabco, Inc. He also served as a teaching assistant for CAS 100A for Engineers, a required public speaking course at Penn State.
Houser’s extracurricular activities included the Penn State Undergraduate Teaching and Research Experiences in Engineering (UTree) Program, where he volunteered as a mentor (2011-13) and assisted in teaching a seminar at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. He served on the World Class Engineer Online Learning Experience Task Force (2013). After graduation, Houser will join The Boeing Company as a structural analysis engineer.
