Yoga fundraiser

The seventh annual Karma yoga event will be held on the manse lawn at Southminster Church, Mt. Lebanon, 7-8:15 p.m. July 10. The free gentle yoga class open to all levels will raise funds for Jeremiah’s Place, a relief nursery in Pittsburgh. Participants can make donations to support the event and cause.


The mission of Jeremiah’s Place is to provide a therapeutic refuge of rest, health, safety and psycho-social renewal for children and their families during times of crisis.

Sarcoma research fundraiser

The Pittsburgh Cure Sarcoma (PCS) has announced its third annual 5K Walk/Run at 9 a.m. July 13 at North Park Boathouse in Allison Park.


The proceeds will benefit the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Sarcoma Research and the Sarcoma Foundation of America.


The event will include a Kids’ Fun Run and activities, live entertainment by local band Act 80 and complimentary food and beverages.


Awards will be presented to top three overall for both males and females, and top three in each of eight different age groups, both males and females.


Participants can register online at pittsburghcuresarcoma.org. Advance registration is $20, which includes an event T-shirt. Race day registration is $25, opening at 7 a.m.

Green Tree Rotary

The Green Tree Rotary Club will hold its annual charity golf outing at the Chartiers Country Club July 15. Proceeds will benefit neurodegenerative disease, Lending Hearts and other area charities. For more information, call Rick Canello at 412-996-0021.


Edible Flowers Food Fest

The 13th Annual Edible Flowers Food Fest takes place at 7 p.m. July 18 at the Buffalo Inn, South Park. Reservations are required, as the popular event fills up quickly. Cost is $20 per guest, cash or check at the door only, and all proceeds will benefit Allegheny County Parks.


Presented by Allegheny County Parks and co-sponsored by the Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County, 2013’s selections highlight dishes featuring roses and lavender, a nod to some of the widest used edible flowers. The menu will include perennial favorites, many of which are gluten-free. The Early Learning Institute

The Early Learning Institute, along with Trunk Shows Boutique, is hosting Cupcakes & Cosmos at the South Hills boutique on July 22. Sweet House Bake Shop will provide sweet treats, and part of the proceeds from the evening’s specially discounted sales will benefit TELI, which serves children and their families in Allegheny County through in-home early intervention services and center-based learning centers. Friends of the Montour Trail

On July 26, Friends of the Montour Trail in Peters Township will host a Twilight Trail Walk along Arrowhead Trail. There will be two starting locations – Farmhouse Coffee/My Big Fat Greek Gyro and St. Petersburg Center, both located on Valley Brook Road. Donation is $7 and participants will walk along the luminaria-lit trail and be entered in a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses. Registration takes place at the event only, and proceeds benefit the maintenance and expansion of the Montour Trail in Peters. For more information, visit www.montourtrail.org.


Rev ‘Em Up for Kids Car Cruise

The Fifth Annual Pasta Too Rev ‘Em Up for Kids Car Cruise takes place rain or shine at the South Park Fairgrounds 11 a.m.-6 p.m. July 28. The event benefits Bethel Park recreational sports groups and is open to all special interest vehicles, including classic cars, exotic and super cars, trucks and motorcycles.


The first 400 vehicles will receive dash plaques. Attendees can register their cars for a special 50/50 gold ticket chance worth $200 to the winning ticket number.


Johnny Angel and the Halos will perform hits from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s. Along with music and prizes, there will also be merchandise vendors, family fun, a kids zone, food vendors and show T-shirts, along with emergency response vehicles on display. Admission is $5 per vehicle or adult spectator, while children under 17 are free.

Marcus L. Ruscitto Golf Invitational

Tee off at St. Clair Country Club on July 29 for the Eighth Annual Marcus L. Ruscitto Charitable Foundation Golf Invitational. The day includes lunch, cocktails, dinner, a live auction and awards. Beer Tasting Fundraiser

Tickets are currently on sale for Mt. Lebanon Public Library’s fourth annual Beer Garden Bash fundraiser, 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 24. The event, sponsored by Friends of the Mt. Lebanon Public Library, will feature more than a dozen craft beers for sampling, a gourmet picnic meal and music from steel drum artist Dan Meunier, creating a Caribbean vibe. Tickets will be available at the library’s front desk for $30 each. No tickets will be available at the door on the night of the event. Bunco fundraiser

The Dicey Chicks, a Pittsburgh-based Bunco group, will host its fourth biennial Roll for a Reason Bunco fundraiser on Oct. 19 in the Fellowship Hall of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair.


Proceeds from Roll for a Reason benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.


In total, the three previous events attracted over 340 players and raised more than $20,000 for breast and ovarian cancer research.


The Dicey Chicks are hoping to raise $10,000 at this year’s Roll for a Reason.


Roll for a Reason consists of three games of Bunco, separated by twenty-minute intermissions for players to enjoy the dessert bar and participate in the basket raffle. For participants who have never played Bunco, the rules for this easy game will be reviewed. The cost of registration is $20 per person before Oct. 5, and $30 per person after Oct. 5. Registration forms are available at www.rollforareason.org.


Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Play begins at 1:30 p.m.
