Westminster Presbyterian Church’s featured artist through August 14 is Rosanne Cipollone, who works with media of ink, oils and watercolor. Cipollone feels especially challenged with watercolors and finds beauty even in accidents – she lets water move where it wants. Cipollone believes she only interprets what God has made – the colors, shapes, composition, variety, lines and shadings of the world. At times her work is distorted to abstraction.

Interpretation and redefinition drive her work. She feels the closer she looks, the more perfection she finds in God’s creations. The closer she looks at things manmade, the more imperfections she finds.

Cipollone’s training was in small studios with other artists. She also has a soft spot for mistreated children and has painted a series of children wearing hats, wondering if their pensive faces hide something painful.

In the Annex, six calligraphers will exhibit their work entitled “Spiritual Expression in Calligraphy,” a collection of calligraphic works illustrating scripture and other texts that the artists found inspirational or especially meaningful.

The six artists are Lynn Walliser (a Westminster member), Thomas Rieley (a former Westminster member), Carol Saunders, Myrna Rosin, Sally Wightkin and Judy Melvin.

Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 2040 Washington Road in Upper St. Clair. The galleries are open to the public during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For more information, visit
