Upper St. Clair Township Commissioners on July 29 voted to apply for up to a half million dollars in state grants for improvements at two township parks.

Both grant applications will be forwarded to the Department of Community and Economic Development.

The township will ask for up to $250,000 in grant money for renovations to the township’s 11.2-acre Wiltshire Park off McMurray Road at Wiltshire Road. In addition, the township is seeking up to an additional $250,000 to extend the perimeter trail around Boyce Mayview Park.

Matthew Serakowski, township manager, said if funds are granted, township staff will make a recommendation on which section of the perimeter trail at the township’s largest park will be improved next. He said the trail is meant to encircle the entire park when completed.

At the commissioners Aug. 5 meeting, they will hold a public hearing on a request for outdoor dining to be permitted at Chipotle Mexican Grill at 1720 Washington Road. A drawing on file at the township’s library shows a row of table seating outside the north wall of the restaurant.

Scott Brilhart, community development director for the township, told commissioners July 29 that a row of planters are planned to shield the tables from view, and will still allow a 4-foot-wide area of sidewalk for use on the other side of the planters.
