Bethel Park

South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM), 5301 Park Ave., Bethel Park is asking for help to restock its food pantry shelves. SHIM typically experiences a decrease in food donations during the summer when schools are out of session, youth groups take a break and families go on vacation. As a result, the food inventory for pantry users is extremely low. Families rely on SHIM’s food pantries to keep food on the table through the summer months when grocery bills rise as children are home for the summer.

SHIM is asking organizations and businesses to organize food drives to support its pantries at both the Bethel Park and Prospect Park locations, which together serve more than 350 South Hills families each month. A list of most-needed items can be found at www.shim-center.org/give-help.

Mt. Lebanon

Work is set to begin on Mt. Lebanon’s two Washington Road parking garages, which are receiving a $400,000 facelift. Beginning Aug. 12, both the North Parking Garage (opposite Cedar Boulevard) and the South Garage (adjacent to the Municipal Building) will temporarily lose a few dozen spaces with some changes in traffic flow. While the work will not cause significant parking shortages, drivers should allow a little extra time when coming Uptown to ensure they can get to appointments on time.

The fifth and sixth floors of the South Garage will be closed and the entrance will be via Municipal Way, off Florida Avenue, around the back of the garage. People will use the outdoor stairs to get to Washington Road. People with mobility issues may prefer to park on the street, in a surface lot or in the North Garage. Traffic will exit the garage as usual.

The top floor of the North Garage will be closed. All other spots and the elevator will be usable. Work will be completed by Nov. 12.
