Because of the Labor Day holiday Sept. 2, waste and recycling services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week that is extended to include the Saturday after the Labor Day holiday.
The Bridgeville Public Library is exhibiting the work of two local artists, Andrew Knez, a frontier artist, and Tim Anderson, a black and white photographer, at the library from Aug. 22-Sept. 13.
The grand opening event with wine, hors d’oeuvres, acoustic music and art viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 23. A $10 donation is requested.
Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest will be held Sept. 20-22 in downtown Canonsburg. The event will be from 4-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
The third annual Castle Shannon Revitalization Corp. golf outing will be held beginning with a scramble at 9 a.m. Sept. 20 at Riverview Course Club. There will be a new car “Hole in One” contest. Sponsor a hole or tee for $100, or donate a prize or gift certificate with a $100 value.

Crusin’ Classics Hot Rod Hoedown will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 18 in Cecil Municipal Park.
The event is open to all years of specialized vehicles with any entry donation of $10. There is no pre-entry. Dash plaques and goodie bags will be provided to the first 125 registered.
Senior Citizens Day will be held from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 18 in the Municipal Center Park. In the event of bad weather, the event will be moved inside.
There will be a catered lunch and free raffles.
The event is free to residents and $5 for non-residents. Sign up in the administrative office.
Senior Citizens Day is sponsored by the RCA Board.
• Ladies Night Out will be held in the Wilson Park Pool from 6-10 p.m. Aug. 16. The rain date will be Aug. 23.
Bring an appetizer. Wilson Pavilion will be available to socialize. The event is free and no pool pass is needed. There will be raffles, games, prizes and water aerobics.
Bring gently worn bras and camis. Everyone donating will receive a free raffle ticket. The concession stand will remain open.
The night is sponsored by the Green Tree RCA Board and the Green Tree Woman’s Civic Club.
The 30th annual Houston Pumpkin Festival will be held on the grounds of the American Legion Oct. 11-13. Vendor applications are available online at www.HoustonPumpkinFestival.net.
Activities are planned from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. The costume parade is at 10 a.m. Saturday.
State Sen. Matt Smith, D-Mt. Lebanon, will hold an open house from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 24, at his Mt. Lebanon district office, 319 Castle Shannon Boulevard. The location is the same as Smith had when he served in the House of Representatives. The telephone number remains the same at 412-571-2169.

The 14 public libraries in Washington County are merging to form the WAGGIN One Card Access to offer a unified catalog to all Washington County library cardholders.
The current Peters Township Public Library card is still useable. However, due to the merger, a new card will need to be registered.
Before the next trip to the library, print a new card application from the website, fill it out, and take it to the library. If a new card cannot be created on the visit because of the volume of requests, a new card will be created later and may be picked up on the next visit.

Upper St. Clair
Citizens’ Police Academy will take place Oct. 8-Nov. 12. In order to attend the Academy, residents must submit an application by Oct. 1. Mail or deliver application to the Upper St. Clair Police Department, 1820 McLaughlin Run Road, Upper St. Clair, PA 15421.
There is no fee.

• The zoning hearing board will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. Aug. 28 in the community room of the Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center, 1551 Mayview Road, for an application filed by Moira Cain-Mannix for a substantive challenge to the validity of the township ordinance No. 2056. The ordinance was adopted Oct. 3, 2011.
The application is available for inspection at the township offices from 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
