Sara Scheirman has been hired as an assistant coach for the Temple women’s volleyball team for the 2013 season. The Mt. Lebanon product will help the Owls with travel arrangements, recruiting and video breakdown while she also works toward a master’s degree in sports management.

“We’re really excited about the addition of Sara to our staff,” said third-year coach Bakeer Ganes, who also announced the additions of Kelly Martina and Samantha Diamond to the staff as a volunteer assistant and sports psychologist respectively. “These additions will help us to provide a much better service to our student-athletes and greatly improve their overall welfare.”

Scheirman has improved the welfare of all the programs, for which she participated.

Prior to coming to Temple, the 5-11 outside hitter excelled at Duquesne University and Mt. Lebanon High School.

A three-time all-Atlantic 10 honoree, she served as a team captain for the Dukes in her senior year and also served for two seasons as the team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative. Among her off-the-court honors were selection to attend the 2012 NCAA Career in Sports Forum and mention to the dean’s list, Director of Athletics’ Honor Roll and Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

In May, she earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Duquesne.

At Mt. Lebanon, she led the Blue Devils to the 2007 WPIAL championship and a share of two of section titles. The three-year varsity starter was named to the all-state, all-WPIAL and all-section teams her junior and senior seasons. She was voted to the all-district and all-section teams her sophomore year.

Scheirman served on the student-athlete council and participated in the Hoops for the Cure. An avid luger during the winter months, Scheirman started her athletic career winning the South Hills Triathlon as a youth.

Since January of 2013, Scheirman has been coaching 14-year-old players with the Renaissance Volleyball Club. She also served as a coach for the TSEVB Camp in California, Pa.
