The closing of two roads in South Fayette Township is moving forward. Commissioners voted Sept. 18 to advertise for two ordinances; one for the permanent closure of a portion of Coal Pit Run Road and one for the winter closure of a portion of Pinch Road.

Township Manager Ryan Eggleston pointed out that the portion of Coal Pit Run Road that may be closed has been acquired by PennDOT and will be part of the proposed Southern Beltway.

Eggleston said at a previous meeting that both roads are in need of significant repair.

The portion of Pinch Road that could be closed for the winter months is located off Tom’s Run Road near Dutch Hill Road. The section of Coal Pit Run Road is near the Washington County line where it intersects with Bowman Road.

Also at the meeting, commissioners awarded T.A. Robinson Asphalt of Bridgeville with the contract for the driveway at the former Star City theater. T.A. Robinson was the low-bidder on the project at $286,000. The cost will be divided amongst the three owners that will use the driveway: UPMC, Washington Financial Bank and the township.

In other business, a public hearing regarding a homeowner’s appeal of a code violation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6. Duane McLuckie and his wife Angie, of Dutch Hill Road, filed the appeal after they were cited by the township for not having the proper grading on their property. Township solicitor Jonathan Kamin said he hopes the issue will be resolved prior to the hearing.

The township also set trick-or-treat hours for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
