As a high school parent, I was shocked to see the type of dancing that was exhibited at the Peters Township High School homecoming dance. As a parent, who grew up in the 80s and participated in many high school dances and functions, I fully understand the importance that these activities bring to the high school experience. Please know that I am not a prude, but to bump, grind and grope to the point of making Miley Cyrus blush is unacceptable, and may result in many kids and parents rejecting future Peters Township High School dance functions. As a self-labeled School of Character, the Peters Township school officials who attended the dance displayed none, even when it was evident that the dancing was getting out of control. As many local districts have recognized and initiated enforcement against this type of dancing with much success, it appears that this is now the chance to commit to the characterthat district prides itself on. School dances are an extremely important facet of the high school experience. Let’s do what’s right for our children and for our district.
