Rubber Ducky, you’re the one
The Rubber Duck Project – the four-story giant rubber duck that made his home on the Allegheny River at the Point recently – captured the imagination of the second grade students at Washington Elementary School in Bethel Park School District. Teachers Colleen Managnello, Michelle McKain and Theresa Vescovi cleverly incorporated the Duck Project into the students’ social studies unit on communities. They asked the students what they would want the Duck to see while it is in Pittsburgh. The students wrote a paragraph about the places to visit, including Heinz Field, the Carnegie Science Center, Sandcastle, PNC Park and Macy’s. They also drew a picture of the duck to accompany their writing. Standing in front of the bulletin board are Jeff Hier, Olivia Dawson, Ava Arnold and Jamin Runja.
