PT board members’ last meeting was briefPublished Nov 19, 2013 at 8:52 am (Updated Nov 20, 2013 at 12:21 pm)
Peters Township School Board member Lori Cuervo’s last meeting was also the shortest in her four years on the board. In exactly 30 minutes, the board completed its necessary business and adjourned.
For Cuervo, David Hvizdos and Cindy Golembiewski, the Nov. 18 meeting was their last, each having lost the election for another term. Cuervo and Golembiewski lost their bid in the spring primary, while Hvizdos was one of five candidates for four seats. He came in last following the Nov. 5 general election. Golembiewski did not attend her last meeting.
Sue Smith was the only incumbent to retain her seat. Being sworn in during the Dec. 3 reorganization meeting along with Smith will be newcomers Jamison Hardy, Lisa Anderson and Rebecca Bowman.
Superintendent Jeannine French thanked Cuervo, Golembiewski and Hvizdos for their service.
During the brief meeting, the board voted unanimously to change the status of temporary professional employee to professional employee status for three teachers who have successfully completed three years of employment with a “satisfactory” rating. Those employees are Kelly Barefoot, Kristin DeGiovanni and Gina Duffy, all of whom work at the high school.
Four student teachers were approved, three of whom are students at Duquesne University with the other from California University of Pennsylvania, to observe classes during the second semester.
The retirement of bus driver Everett Gorden was accepted effective Nov. 4, as was the resignation of cafeteria and playground monitor at the middle school, Jodi Fitzgerald, effective Jan. 1.
Extra-duty athletic personnel at the high school were approved for the remainder of the school year, including Todd Clark as the swimming head coach, Charlotte Wright as the swimming assistant diving coach and Elizabeth Swartzwelder as the softball assistant coach.
The board unanimously approved a request by the wrestling team to travel to and participate in the Virginia Duals from Jan. 9-12 in Hampton, Va. There will be no cost to the district.
Newly-elected school board members will be sworn at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3, during the reorganizational meeting. Normally, the reorganizational meeting is held the first Monday in December. However, there is no school on Dec. 2, so the meeting was moved to Dec. 3. The reorganizational meeting is usually the only board meeting held in December.
