Soup & Stroll
Peters Creek Historical Society’s seventh annual “Candlelight Soup and Stroll” takes place at the Wright House Museum noon-5 p.m. Dec. 8.
Guests will enter by candlelit walkways, peek into the decorated old sleigh, then step into the landmark 1816 Wright House bedecked in beautiful 19th century Williamsburg-style Christmas decorations. As a special bonus this year, guests will also be able to visit Wright’s U.M. Church (across the street), part of the historic corridor also, to enjoy their decorations and nativities from around the world.
Visitors will dine by candlelight on a variety of homemade soups, breads and desserts in one of several of the museum’s “greened” display rooms. T

KO Band Christmas tree sale underway
The Keystone Oaks High School Marching Band and Keystone Oaks Parents Society (KOPS) will hold their annual Christmas Tree Sale in the Dormont Park tennis and basketball courts, adjacent to Dormont Pool.
The sale continues through the holiday season or until all trees are sold. Members of the marching band and their parents will be on site weekdays from 4-9 p.m., and from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekends.
Cost of trees is based on size, fullness and appeal of the trees. All proceeds will benefit the marching band.

KDKA seeks nominations
NewsRadio 1020 KDKA and Larry Richert are looking to honor five local men or women for their service to the community for the second annual Larry Richert Honors Our Hometown Heroes. KDKA is seeking nominations of individuals who have stood out for their service to the community or for extraordinary acts of heroism.
Five heroes will be honored at a dinner on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Lexus Club at PNC Park. Each hero will also receive $1,000 to donate to a 501(C)(3) charity of their choice.
Ticket sales to the dinner will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The deadline to nominate a Hometown Hero is December 31, 2013. For more information and for the nomination criteria and form, visit KDKA.com/heroes.
Holiday Shop Walk
The Bloomfield Development Corporation is hosting a Holiday Shop Walk on Dec. 14. Recently recognized by USA Today’s 10 Best Travel Blog, Bloomfield is one of the best places to discover Italian heritage in America. Stroll the business district and visit the diverse merchants that are offering special promotions and holiday events to ignite the spirit of the season. Edwardo, a one man band with his accordion, will pop up around the neighborhood to serenade visitors with Italian music often heard on Radio Italia.
