The Mt. Lebanon school board welcomed Ken Cross as new director of special education at its Dec. 9 meeting. Cross previously served as director of student services for Beaver Area School District.
“I understand the importance of this position and will be very dedicated to it for the teachers, parents and students,” he said. “I take this position very seriously and am glad to be part of the team.”
The board also unanimously approved a contract with Kristen Friedrich Schaffner for psychological services on an as-needed basis. Needs will be determined by school administrators responsible for psychological services. Assistant superintendent Dr. Deborah Allen said she did not expect the cost of Schaffner's services to exceed $15,000.
Board member Mary Birks asked whether the district would include a “do not exceed” clause in the contract.
School superintendent Dr. Timothy Steinhauer said such language would not be added. “We will monitor the expenditure,” he said. “If it were to increase, we will bring it to the board's attention.”
