The Bethel Park Police Department has an anonymous crime tip line for confidential reporting of information and non-emergency incidents. The tip line number is 412-851-2773.
Property owners and residents are reminded that they are responsible for removing ice and snow from the sidewalks in front of the property within 12 hours of a snowfall. No snow is to be shoveled into the street. Failure to remove the snow and ice could result in a maximum fine of $600 plus costs. If any fine is not paid, the result could be a jail term of 30 days. Each day the snow and ice are not removed is considered a separate offense.
The 24-hour, self serve free electronics recycling event will be held Jan. 3-5 at the Green Tree rear lot of the municipal center, 10 W. Manilla Ave. Christmas lights will be accepted along with laptops, televisions, computer monitors, speakers, keyboards, stereo equipment, sweepers, hair dryers and DVD players.
Mt. Lebanon High School will again offer a preschool program for 3 and 4-year-old children. To be eligible, children must be at least age 3 1/2 by March 17 and 4-year-olds must be no older than 4 years, 10 months by March 17.
The program is operated by high school students enrolled in the Advanced Child Development course under the supervision of the child development teachers.
The program will run from March 17-May 22.
Children will attend from 9:10-10:40 a.m. Monday through Friday, and the cost is $65. Enrollment is limited to 10 children and the deadline for applications is Feb. 14. Construction at the high school will not affect the program. For information, call Susan Kordistos at 412-344-2023.
Photojournalist Jim McNutt will be the speaker at the Jan. 8 meeting of the Western Pennsylvania Lensshooters camera club. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Peters Township Public Library.
McNutt has worked as a photographer at the Observer-Reporter newspaper in Washington for 44 years and has won numerous statewide awards. He also taught photography as an adjunct professor at Washington & Jefferson College for 22 years, as well as teaching classes at the Peters Township library.
The theme for the month is Christmas, and members are asked to share their favorite holiday photograph by emailing one digital image to Bob Peirce, firstname.lastname@example.org, by Jan. 5. Members are also reminded to bring up to three framed photographs to the January meeting for the Lensshooters Annual Photo Competition. The meetings are open to the public. The South Fayette Zoning Hearing Board has rescheduled a public hearing for 7 p.m. Jan. 13 through Jan. 14, at the South Fayette Middle School auditorium, 3680 Old Oakdale Road. The purpose is a hearing on an application for a validity challenge to the township zoning ordinance, sections 240-9 and 240A (54) oil and gas development.
The property in question is more than 400 acres on Cecil Sturgeon Road. The applicants are Cuddy Partners and Range Resources-Applalachia.

South Park Township
The township contracted with a new refuse and recycling company in 2014. Trash collection in 2014 will change from Fridays to Mondays. Trash will be collected weekly and recycling will continue to be collected every other week. Leaf collection will remain on a seasonal basis.
The first collection in 2014 with the new company, Republic Services, will be Jan. 6.
Upper St. Clair
The Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6 in the Board of Commissioners’ Meeting Room, 1820 McLaughlin Run Road, to consider an application for unified conditional use/preliminary land development filed by Robert A. Santo for the construction of a Goddard School at 631 Painters Run Road. The request is for an area zoned Commercial 2, highway commercial district.
A copy of the application is available for inspection at the township offices, 1820 McLaughlin Run Road. The application is available from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
