The Upper St. Clair Township Board of Commissioners meeting Jan. 6 began with a swearing in ceremony for re-elected commissioners Mark Christie and Daniel Paoly, as well as newly elected Commissioner Rex Walker.
During the following reorganization meeting, Robert Orchowski was re-elected president and Russell Del Re was re-elected vice president.
A public hearing for the conditional use of the site of the current Pascarelli’s restaurant on Painters Run Road began with testimony from Bob and Laurie Santo. The couple, who own and operate a Goddard School in Peters Township, would like to open a second school in Upper St. Clair.
Plans call for the demolition if the restaurant and the two homes located on the property.
The private school for students ages six weeks to 6 years will use the Piaget philosophy. The Santos hope to have the school open in the fall of 2014.
Dave Kalian, project engineer, said the site of the 11,000 -square-foot school would be elevated to protect flooding from the nearby creek.
The public hearing on construction of the school was continued to the Feb. 3 board meeting.
