Jake Worcester scored twice and dished up one assist in leading Bethel Park to a 5-2 win against Canon-McMillan in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League action at Bladerunners.
Jake Worcester snapped a 2-2 deadlock with the first of his back-to-back goals at the 13:53 mark in the second period as Bethel Park defeated Canon-McMillan, 5-2, in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Class AAA play at Bladerunners Ice Rink.
Ethan Wdowiak, Nicholas Konyk and Tyler Kruszewski also supplied tallies for the Black Hawks.
Derek Lesnak earned playmaker honors, racking up three assists. With assists also were: Worcester, Jeffrey Wagner and Christian Siak
After a shaky start where he surrendered a goal 1:32 into the contest, Zachary Davis silenced the Big Macs. He faced 26 shots, stopping 24. Lucas Lavella and Shane Morgan scored for CM. Lavalla and Zachary Gebhert assisted Morgan’s short-handed tally at the 8:36 mark in the second stanza. Austin Tonkovich and Luc Tilley assisted Gebhart’s goal.
Tonkovich and Lavella lead CM in scoring. Both have scored eight goals and dished up 12 assists.
The Hawks managed 36 shots on goal against Ryan Christian.
With the win, BP moved into a tie for first place in Section 1-AAA with Peters Township. Both were 9-2 overall to start the week’s action.
The Indians dropped a 3-1 decision to Seneca Valley to slip into the deadlock with the Black Hawks. In the loss, Evan Opeka registered the goal, off assists from Adam Alavi and Josef Kittelberger. In the nets for Peters, Brian Baker turned back 29 shots.
Alavi leads the Indians’ attack with 11 goals and nine assists this season.
Among the top area scorers in the PIHL include: Siak (21 goals, 9 assists) and Lesnak (4 goals, 17 assists). Others include: Upper St. Clair’s Austin Cassidy (16 goals, 8 assists), Mt. Lebanon’s Stephen Sramac (8 goals, 13 assists) as well as Reed Farber (10 goals, 10 assists).
In Class AA, Bishop Canevin remained atop the Section 1 standings with an 11-2 mark, followed by Chartiers Valley, which is 8-5.
The Colts, however, had the top scoring tandem in the league with Anthony Franks and Cullen McMahon. They have fired in 20 and 24 goals respectively while racking up 29 and 20 assists each.
The Crusader have two players in the top 10 for scoring: Randy Unger (12 goals, 26 assists) and Alex Bosnic (15 goals, 14 assists).
