Musical memories

Adult Interest Center at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Lebanon, meets at 11 a.m. on Fridays. Lunch is served at noon for $6.

American HealthCare Group will sponsor a free Eldercare & Wellness Lunch & Learn for caregivers at noon Feb. 27 at Wigle Whiskey in the Strip District.

Strabane Trails

The River City Brass Band will perform at Strabane Trails Village at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27. The event is free.

Seniors connect

Mt. Lebanon Public Library plans the following programs:

• Book Chat, 10 a.m. Feb. 28 and March 28.

• Conversation Salon, 10 a.m. March 4.

• Creative Connections, 2 p.m. March 5.

Nominees sought

The deadline to nominate and vote for Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer for its Salute to Senior Service program is March 1. Home Instead, Inc. recognizes the invaluable contributions of adults age 65 and older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service to their favorite causes.

State winners will be determined by popular vote. A panel of senior care experts will then select a national Salute to Senior Service winner from among the state honorees.

Home Instead, Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ designated and approved nonprofit organizations, and their personal stories will be shared online on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s designated and approved nonprofit charity.

Caregiving series

Aging Institute of UPMC Senior Services, University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Health Plan will sponsor Powerful Tools for Careivers, a six-week class starting March 3 and Inspiring New Solutions and Providing Individualized Resources and Education starting April 14 at Mt. Lebanon Public Library. Classes are free. To register, call 412-864-2092.

Computer classes

Castle Shannon Library plans the following computer classes for age 50 and older:

• Intro to computers, 10:15 a.m. March 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 & 14.

• Windows 8, 10:15 a.m. March 18, 19, 20. Bring your laptop.

• Skype, 10:15 a.m. March 26, 27. $5 for both classes.

AFSCME Retired Chapter 13 sub-chapter #8402 will meet at 1 p.m. March 11 at the Frank Sarris Public Library, N. Jefferson Ave., Canonsburg. All retired state and municipal employees are welcome.

Senior lunch

Hilltoppers meet

The Hilltoppers of Scott Township will meet March 12 at Covenant-Community Presbyterian Church on Greentree Road.

Doors open at 10 a.m. for fellowship. Bring a brown bag lunch to eat at noon. Dessert will be provided and beverages will be available.

Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department announces a senior luncheon and movie matinee on March 18 at the Rec Center for seniors and their adult guests (Mt. Lebanon residency not required).

Speaker Kevin Kramer will discuss memory maintenance and brain exercises.

Check-in is at 10:30 a.m.

Fee of $6, due by March 14, includes a hot lunch buffet, speaker, 50/50 raffle and movie. Preregistration is a must. Walk-ins are not encouraged and will only be accepted if space permits. A late fee will be charged.

Bus trip

Peters Township Parks and Rec Center will sponsor a senior bus trip, “Bundles of Fun,” on March 27. Tour the Bedford area: Fisher’s Country Store, Oak Spring Winery, Marzoni’s Brick Oven, Boyer Candy Company, Benzel’s Pretzel Bakery, and more. Depart at 6:30 a.m., return about 7 p.m. Cost is $116. Tax help

AARP tax help will be available from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through April 7 at the Bridgeville Public Library.

Must present a social security card, photo ID and proof of bank account number.
