Recovery is the only antidote to the drug issuePublished Apr 16, 2014 at 6:00 am (Updated Apr 14, 2014 at 10:55 am)
As a qualifier with an addicted loved one, I would much rather have my addict have a chance for recovery than going to their funeral. No one knows what the addict’s bottom will be that leads to their recovery.
There is no recovery if the bottom is death. Naloxone can prevent funerals. I endorse the Evzio “safety net.” Drug addiction is a very powerful, physical and mental disease that can debilitate anyone associated with it. Drug addiction, like cancer, is a disease. People need to be educated about this. No one chooses to become addicted to drugs, just like no one chooses to have cancer.
Drug addiction is an epidemic in this country. The reason “these people” risk dying is because their brains are high jacked. The addiction is stronger than the risk. I encourage families with addicted loved ones to attend a Naranon or Narateen meeting. Get educated and find comfort with people who know exactly what you are going through. I encourage addicts to seek rehab. Go to a Narcartics Anonymous meeting. Only you can begin your recovery. Know that you are loved and the world is a better place with you in it. I believe if more of our neighbors, our educators, the media and the government accept that addiction is a disease, then more will be done to “solve the drug issues.”
