Editorial cartoons pro-republicanPublished Apr 30, 2014 at 7:05 am (Updated Apr 24, 2014 at 3:17 pm)
The past two editions of your paper have run anti-Obama political cartoons. Last week’s showed a boat labeled forging policy sitting atop the president’s head with the caption “not a ping.” I suppose this refers to Mr. Obama’s policies toward the situation in the Ukraine. I’m sure the hothead conservatives would love us to get into a war there – ignoring Russia’s historic interests there and their expansion toward the Black Sea.
This week’s cartoon shows the president and vice president being hugged by a huge gorilla labeled “debt.” Contrary to what the con-men conservatives say, our national debt has a decreased under president Obama, both in actual amount and as a percentage of GDP. Interestingly, the greatest increases in national debt have come under Ronald Reagan and the most recent Republican president, who has fallen down the GOP memory hole. President Reagan vastly increased the military budget while lowering taxes and the “forgotten” president picked two wars without increasing taxes to pay for them.
I know your op-ed page is right leaning, but c’mon!
